Top Tips

planning a wedding abroad

It's your really big day – check out these tips for planning your wedding abroad.

Setting the date – give your guests plenty of notice as it will mean being away from home for a few days and people will need to organise.  Think about what the weather will be like in your chosen destination and plan you wedding to suit the climate – an early evening ceremony may be more comfortable than midday.

Guests – remember that not all your guests will have the wherewithal to be able to join you – accept that some will have to decline. Make sure all your nearest and dearest are happy to join you.

Your ceremony – civil or religious ceremony?  Will the setting be as you want it?  Will your choice be respectful to local traditions?

The legal bit – make sure you research the rules from the country where you are planning to marry.  Some have rules about divorcees and same sex marriages. Make sure you have the correct documentation.

And if you need any help - we're here for you.

Budgeting

If only we all had an unlimited budget – how fab would that be?

Back to reality – the majority of couples have a budget that they need to work to – but that doesn't mean that they can’t have a fantastic wedding or honeymoon.

Be open – minded and let Shore Travel offer you suggestions based on our knowledge and experience.

Some hotels offer inclusive wedding / honeymoon packages – make sure to look at this option as it could make your budget work harder and consider an all-inclusive hotel which would make sticking to your budget easier.

Many couples are already well established in their homes before they tie the knot, leaving a big gap on the gift list!

Why not consider adding 'Travel Vouchers' to your list and suggest your guests make a contribution to your honeymoon fund.

That way, they will know that they are giving you a gift that you will never forget.

Cruise Weddings & Honeymoons

“Aye Do Captain”

Getting married by the Captain on board ship is undoubtedly one of the most romantic ways to say “I do”.

There are a number of cruise lines that perform legal weddings at sea including Royal Caribbean, Azamara, Celebrity, P&O, Cunard and Princess.  The number of weddings they will perform is limited, so book early. You might also consider getting married in port, either on-board ship or maybe at a beach location or local landmark,  but you will need to ensure that the relevant paperwork  for the destination is in place.

If you want more flexibility then a pre-sailaway ceremony in the home port might suit you best. Clergy and guests can come aboard for the wedding and after-party, then debark before the ship sails, and you get the cruise as a honeymoon.

Alternatively you might consider a symbolic ceremony where you do the legal bit at home, but enjoy the romance of a ceremony on board ship. Cruise lines all offer different wedding packages and Shore Travel  will guide you through all the options so you can choose the one that suits you and your guests best.

Minimoons

If you are looking for a short - but very sweet - way to honeymoon then consider a Minimoon where you can make the most of every moment you have together by spending a couple of days somewhere special after your wedding.

Why not indulge in a couple of days in a gorgeous hotel by the beach or immerse yourselves in a romantic city break?

But remember,  stay close to home to make the most of your time!  Shore Travel can help you get the best from your break by planning your flights or travel to optimize your time at your chosen destination.
